AIR EXPO CANCELLED – US NAVY BLUE ANGELS TO PERFORM IN CHARLESTON AT NAVY WEEK
The 2010 Charleston Air Expo, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 17, 2010 has been cancelled due to increased airlift operations on base in support of troops engaged in the heightened Afghan surge as ordered by the President. Airlift Capability is a key component of the Air Force’s air ability to transport both troops and essential cargo to operating locations.
"We don't take the decision lightly," said Col. Martha Meeker, 628th Air Base Wing commander. "However, in the end, supporting the advancement of freedom to those who've never known what it's like to set their own course must take priority."
Base officials emphasize that although they fully understand the importance of the Air Expo to military recruiting and community awareness, the number one focus is our mission plan and the safety of our airmen.
The US Navy Blue Angels will be joining in the festivities of Navy Week, April 13-18 and perform an exhibition over the Charleston Harbor. Please log onto http://www.navyweek.org/charleston2010/index.html for more information on Charleston Navy Week and a current calendar of events.
